Girls of the Week for October 6 is...

Sheena!

Sheena is staunchly opposed to "posing" for Girl of the Week, so I found stock footage of her from 6 months ago, and am using that. Always save your archives....

I don't lie when I say that I've never met another person like Sheena. Her personality is one of a kind. Let's take a trip back to her past...first, with a name like "Sheena Rae" she must have been born in Texas. That she was...Austin, I think. That's where she grew up anyhow. Even though she claims she's from Austin, I have seen more of the town than she has. She's never seen UT or never had 3 AM breakfast tacos at GM Steakhouse! That's not Austin living.

Regardless, she still has an impressive story to tell. Some of it is so scandalous, I can't even write it! Instead, we'll keep to the tame stuff. Her early childhood was meek, and as she puts it, she has MANY stories of woe to tell about her younger years. She's survived...due to her outstanding love for Jesus. Through all, you can prevail. Sheena has two younger brothers, aged 11 and 12. This summer, her family pulled up roots and traveled across the state to Lubbock. Now, I've never heard of anyone moving TO Lubbock, so this must be a first.

Sheena's major is Radio-TV-Film, in which I am minoring. She harps on the horrific Film Aesthetics class (which I have to take next semester) and the professor who teaches it. If I only knew Sheena through her somber away messages, I would think she had a bleak outlook on life. This may appear to be true sometimes, but generally she's a happy girl who just procrastinates (like anyone else in college!)

Something else I love about Sheena: she's always the first one to caution me on my love of self. The Bible teaches us to be humble, and she's very right. I definitely need to tone down my self-centeredness. It's always nice to have great friends like Sheena - friends who aren't afraid to keep you accountable.

Here's a great Sheena story: last spring, she was taking applications for her date for HIS spring formal (Rumor Mill archive) As practice for job interviewing, I submitted my actual resume, and also included a "social resume" that listed references, past dates, social skills, upbringing, etc. There was a photo of me as well, and when Sheena showed this to her mother, she responded, "this boy is going places." Ahhh yes, that's me...going places. Sheena always prefaces these stories with, "I hate to inflate your ego even more, but..." Another was her revelation this past week: "Ian, do you think girls are just attracted to you because you're the next Bill Gates?" I didn't think girls could be that shallow, but she does. (I prefer to look up to Jeff Bezos or Christos Cotsakos anyway)

Her strong character apparently is what kept her from coming to "pose" for the Voorn Project. Even though she constantly goes on and on about her "unwifeability," I've seen her break many a man. She's like a siren...drawing men in with her voice (did I mention she sang "Criminal" by Fiona Apple in the recent TCU Variety Show?). So yes, she asked that I include the comment about how she's "undatable, much less wifeable."

I respect her decision about not posing...but she still deserves the honor of Girl of the Week.

Ian, pre-surgery with braces, and Sheena, happy after I bought her dinner.

If only Sheena would visit the Cockrell House...
