News Beth & Sarah meet AEROSMITH! SOURCE: Beth DATE: October 26
VIEWS: This reminds me of the time I met some famous people. Let's see...Duran Duran (when I was like 6), Shawn Bradley, and Muhammad Ali. Beth actually got to sit and talk with the guitarists and were "definitely backstage". They also met all the drivers (not as cool but still icing on the cake). I hope they talked to the band in lyrics, like "I was crying when I met you" and "you can't help yourself from falling." Sarah was able to get these tickets from her uncle. I wonder if he can get me things that I dream about, like Dave Matthews tickets, or my ultimate dream, owning the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A Late Addition: Eric's Angel SOURCE: Eric DATE: October 28 ODDS ON HOOKING UP: 1,000,000 to 1 Three weeks ago, on Eric's trip to Baylor, he met a girl named Natalie, and according to Eric, "a total angel." Odd how he meets a TCU freshman in Waco, at Baylor, but anyway...Eric establishes a plan for the upcoming Victory party for BYX. First: phone contact is made and he invites the angel to the theme party the week before, to assist the casual friendship along. Then, after friendship is established, he invites her to Victory the following week. A foolproof plan, but to Eric's heartbreaking demise, the once seemingly interested angel does not show to the party. ERIC'S VIEWS: Well, like the odds say, a million to one shot. Eric is now desperate for a date and faces the harsh reality of taking yet another HIS girl to a BYX function.
MORE Run-Ins with the Law SOURCE: Ben (story); Ashley (details) DATE: October 27 After the BYX party on Friday, Ashley is pulled over for running a stop sign in Crowley. Two cops pull over his truck, with John & Tim inside. The cop peers at Ashley, and says, "You been drinkin?" He replies truthfully, "no sir." He asks about Ashley's red eyes, and he says it's due to his contacts. "Contacts, uh?" the cop says. He checks everyone's IDs, and in the process tells Ashley to shut up. He threatens doing some DWI tests on Ashley, and commands that John should drive home due to the condition with Ashley's red eyes. It's OK...the cop gave the eye test to John, too. VIEWS: I hate it when cops are jerks. The only time I've been pulled over and not ticketed was when I was dressed in my Scout uniform. I'm glad the cop could see I wasn't drinking...
ANOTHER Car "Problem" SOURCE: Geoff DATE: October 27 Geoff tells me today, "hey, I hit someone with my car." Apparently he was at the corner of University and DeVitt, turning right, and a rollerblading highschooler comes out of nowhere and Geoff hits him. The boy is knocked onto the ground, and his friend (who's behind Geoff's Cressida) is yelling, "oh man, that was awesome! Do it again!" The boy was all right, and Geoff wasn't really shaken apparently. I guess he laughs in the face of death...other people's death. VIEWS: At least these guys didn't whip out their mobile phones and call their attorneys. Geoff remembers hearing a loud crunch when the boy made contact.
TROUBLE in River City... SOURCE: Case Martinec, a Son of Voorn DATE: October 24 Case is not able to come to BYX Victory due to his commitment to the TCU track team. His girlfriend Meredith Alonso (also the younger sister of BYX alumnus Todd Alonso) is quite angry with him, because she really wanted to go. Case says, "hey, if anyone wants to take my girlfriend, she wants to go to Victory. Whatever, doesn't matter to me." VIEWS: That's TROUBLE. We don't need more trouble. Meredith was warned by Todd that the BYX guys are nice, wonderful, all those good things. But she was warned to keep her distance from Nathan Winston. Not that he's trouble...but he likes to get Todd riled up about his sister. It's probably a good thing that he already has a date to VIC.
Pat Green Concert! SOURCE: Jen, kind of DATE: October 19 Thanks to Jen and her scandalous ways, she won tickets to Pat Green and the closing act, the Dixie Chicks. She already had tickets, so I bought hers from her for $74 less than the face value of the tickets. This was my first time to ever attend the State Fair of Texas, and boy was it interesting. Unfortunately, I didn't chow down on a turkey leg or a funnel cake, but chose to go to McDonalds, a normal eatery. VIEWS: The concert was amazing. Pat Green plays very well live, and I guess the closing act was fine. I bought the tickets for Pat anyway, not the Dixie Chicks, who do a horrible rendition of Stevie Nicks' Landslide.
Sarah and her Run-In with the Law SOURCE: Heather, Sarah DATE: October 17 I was on my way to Billy Bob's, as is the Thursday night custom around here. That particular night I drove Dustin's Miata. I was driving north on University past the zoo and YE OLDE VILLAGE (you know, where the speed limit is 30, but everyone goes 50). Just before the Trinity River bridge, I see a black Jeep Cherokee with Illinois plates pulled over by a cop. It had to be Sarah, and sure enough, it was. The cop kept her there for almost 30 minutes. She showed him her (Illinois) driver's license, and he informs her, that since she has established residence in Texas for "more than 30 days" she is required to get a Texas DL. She was ticketed anyway, for going 42 in a 30. VIEWS: Unfortunately she was caught in a speed trap, where the speed limit changes from 30 to 40. The cop came with his flashlight, shining it in all the girls' faces, and was generally unhelpful and coarse to them. That's odd...normally girls I know get out of tickets all the time. Sarah just had to be unlucky.
Beth and her "Famous Friends" SOURCE: Heather DATE: October 19 I was impressing Heather with my newfound knowledge of Texas country music when I said, "Did you know that Texas on My Mind was actually written by Django Walker?" She did know, and adds, "Beth is friends with him." Very cool. VIEWS: I swear I'm going to name my son Django.
The New & Improved John Anderson! SOURCE: me DATE: October 14 WHY THIS IS NEWSWORTHY: When I was a freshman, there was a fellow pledge in BYX named John Anderson. He went inactive pretty quickly, but this year, in my new member captain stint, there's ANOTHER new member named John Anderson. This John is also a junior, and he's the coolest, and therefore the "new and improved" version 2.0. Since his name is so common, he often goes by "Hayden" or "Bubbles". That's John on the right. For the time being, that's the best picture I have of him. Hooray. More John Anderson news SOURCE: my thoughts DATE: October 10 John has been hanging out with Camille quite a bit. They spent Sunday afternoon together, for one. I went to Billy Bob's with Camille, et al on Thursday, and when we returned to Jen's car, John had called Camille three times in the two hours or so we were inside. Obsess much? Perhaps it was an emergency VIEWS: Apparently John and Camille dated for a good three months. Where was I? Must have been this summer. Oh that's right, I was in the hospital.
Sheena, Jen, and Camille are movie stars! SOURCE: Sheena DATE: last week, i think Sheena, Jen, and Camille have auditioned for a film being produced by the TCU Radio-TV-Film department. It's called "Greeks of Nature," and the girls play young freshman girls going through Greek rush, deciding on a sorority. Sheena likes nothing better than lampooning the silliness of rush, and Greek life in general, so she's perfect for the role! Jen actually went through a couple rounds of rush this year (with Kizer's sister too!) VIEWS: I think their little "Behind the Rush" tour will be very cool. If they did it documentary-style, It'd be even funnier.
Beth...going on "dates"?? SOURCE: David Durnil...or maybe it was Heather DATE: last week ODDS: 5 to 1 Beth has been spending a lot of time with Wes Burton. Perhaps you remember Beth from the toothbrush thefts of last month. Wes, you might know from Wabash fame, or from fantasy baseball, in which he finished last. Beth was over at the Wabash House to "watch a movie" and when I was over doing some float construction, and what do you know? Wes is on the phone with Beth. Things are getting suspicious... VIEWS: Wes is cool, Beth is cool. It's a match made in matchmaker heaven.
Homecoming Update! SOURCE: Kelly and Grant DATE: all this week! Homecoming with Alpha Chi Omega has been great! The Frog Follies troupe made it past the first round, but unfortunately failed to place in the second round. What's next? Building the homecoming float. It's becoming a round-the-clock operation, impeded only by class, or when the AXO pledges bombard us with water balloons! It's ok...we got them back with pancake syrup. Then we ate Cameron-made pancakes. VIEWS: I am having too much fun. Unfortunately class and officer meetings got in the way of my participation in Frog Follies. Too bad...I'm a "triple threat." Eh, maybe just "Thespian of the Year." UPDATE! OCTOBER 14: Homecoming is over. The float turned out amazing! AXO and BYX finished in second place in the float voting. The scale model of Amon Carter Stadium, Carr Chapel, and the DeLorean made it a winner. Oh yes, props to Gabe Perez, who turned his TV into a mini-Jumbotron for the float. New

What Happened Over Fall Break SOURCE: me DATES: Oct. 11-13 Unfortunately, too many logistical issues got in the way of me traveling to Austin. While there were many options in mind (Omaha, Springfield, MO, Flower Mound), I went to Houston (more specifically, Katy) with Scott. It was a very relaxing weekend, seeing his friends and family, watching the Texas-OU game, and enjoying the crisp ocean breezes that waft in from the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe not that last part, but the rest is true.
Tests, Round 1 SOURCE: professors DATE: October 1 Well, I've taken two tests so far. Luckily my ebusiness classes are "group-project oriented," so that means no major tests. The other two classes..."test oriented." First Organizational Management test grade...86. I'm working on that one. Randy Lewis, MBA seems like too easy of a professor for me to make a B. History of Broadcasting? 89, which I think is amazing, considering I started studying for this one at 11:00 the night before. VIEWS: I am looking to mimic Mr. Harvey in pulling a 4.0 semester.
EBusiness Groups SOURCE: Dr. Bridges' crazy group assignment system DATE: October 1 My EBusiness project planning group consists of three other guys, by the names of Peter Petrov, Ugur Senev, and Sanjeev Luthra. Wow, and I thought Voorn was an odd name. But seriously folks, other than being very diverse, our group is dynamite. We have a cool "E-Fruit" logo and a lot of work ethic, which is good to have when you're in college. VIEWS: Semester-long projects generally aren't fun, but this one is divided into "milestones," breaking up the monotony.
I'm Missing a Suit SOURCE: Hans DATE: September 27 I can't find my light gray, double breasted suit. I had it tailored to fit me! Where the heck is it? Scott Hatter, I may have put it in your closet for summer storage.
Kristy and Lauren admitted to UT Nursing School SOURCE: Lauren's AIM profile DATE: October 27 Even though Kristy is from Sugar Land and Lauren is from Boston, they are closer to the "FM Connection" due to their association with Rob, Andrew, and Joe. Congrats on their admittance to the upper level classes and the nursing school. Good for them, I can't imagine nursing is an easy degree.
Fall Break Plans! SOURCE: Ian DATE: October 10-13 Here's the plan: I'm flying to Austin next Thursday afternoon to spend two days chilling in Austin, with Andrew, Rob, Dan, Joe, Lauren, and Kristy. Then, I'll ride back to DFW with them, since they're headed this way for the Texas-Oklahoma game, which is in Dallas. Tidbit: I have never understood that. VIEWS: Dustin's mom and brother will also be in town...does this mean overcrowding at Cockrell, or hilarious sitcom results? Wait and see! UPDATE OCT. 14: I didn't go to Austin. No one wanted to accommodate for Ian. Eh, well, I guess I'll fly down another weekend.
Real League Finale SOURCE: Yahoo Fantasy Baseball DATE: September 29 ODDS OF A ROB REPEAT: 9 to 1 Year Four of the Real League has come to an end. After a thrilling 5 team race that reduced to a 2 team race between Rob and Tim, Rob has emerged victorious. Tim had a great team, and an unthinkable offense, but he came in second, just 1.5 points back. I finished 6th, better than last year, but not as good as 1999 and 2000, when I won the first two years of the league's existence. VIEWS: This is Rob's second win, the first being a co-title in 2000 with me. Andrew continues to impress, treating fantasy baseball as a business, since before 2000, he knew little about the sport.
Hans' Birthday SOURCE: me...I better remember DATE: October 13 As of Sunday, Hans is 52 years old now. He's an old man, but playing over-40 league hardball, doing recording studio sessions with his guitar, and of course his two sons have kept him young. That's his Fender Stratocaster on the right. I wish I had the money to buy him another guitar, but all I can afford are picks.
Adrienne's College Search SOURCE: Adrienne DATE: September 27 Adrienne has narrowed her college search to an odd assortment of schools: Baylor, UT, Southwest Texas, and Texas Tech. First of all, I was unaware of this new trend of "moving to Lubbock" (that includes you Sheena). Second, where's TCU on that list? I don't understand this girl. She's got to at least come listen to her brother talk about college at Monday at TCU. VIEWS: state schools...how pedestrian.
Jenna's College Search SOURCE: Larry Thalken DATE: September 27 My dad's best friend and old bandmate is Larry. He lives in Colleyville, and his daughter is Adrienne's age, and also looking at colleges. She has made the right decision in coming to visit TCU. They have requested that I do their tour on that day. I'm not used to people I've known my whole life listen to me ramble on about the Clark bros., the Main, and why Frog Fountain has four lilypads. VIEWS: If Jenna ends up choosing Texas Christian, then it's a victory in my book.
