OH YEAH...I moved back home
DATE: May 22, 2002
SOURCE: Me
Yeah, in the spirit of summer, I moved back to my parents' house in Flower Mound. The first week was pretty slow, the highlight being Attack of the Clones premiere. That's about it really. It's boring here.

WRAPUP: HIS Formal news
DATE: May 3, 2002
SOURCE: Me
Michelle picked me up at 5:30. We went to Virginia's house for photo ops, Mi Cocina for dinner, the zoo for formal (offbeat, but still great), Putt-Putt for some go-carting and mini-golf, then IHOP for a nightcap. I rolled in at 3:30. Wow...that's a lot of time to spend with Michelle, but so well worth it. This was just what I needed.
VIEWS: Not too much to say...the last go-cart race of the night, Michelle & I drove the 2-person cart, which was slightly slower, but still fun. On the last lap, the car quit on us, and we were left alone on the track. Michelle proceeded to yell for help, but we just decided to up and leave the car and walk back.

RUMOR: Scott moves into Westcliff
DATE: May 3, 2002
SOURCE: Scott
ODDS ON USING FRONT DOOR: 100,000 to 1
Scott moved into his apartment last week in Westcliff Manor. It's a nice pad, I approve. Nathan is living there for the summer, and then Dietz in the fall.
VIEWS: It's a shame I couldn't live with Scott & Mike, but too many logistical issues. In my apartment hunt, well, we've got nothing so far. Dustin, Geoff, & I have teamed up, and all we have to show for it is a storage unit.

RUMOR: Jen won't ask her date until the day before HIS formal
DATE: April 12, 2002
SOURCE: Jen
ODDS ON WINNING: 7 to 1
So Jen promises me she is not going to ask her date to formal until the DAY BEFORE. Talk about guts! Standard asking time is 2 weeks prior, sometimes 2 months prior, if your name is Eric Anton. Jen likes to work under pressure, I guess. If all college guys are taken, she swears she'll recruit a high schooler.
VIEWS: Asking dates for formals gets boring after the first one. Props to Jen for adding some excitement to the hunt.
UPDATE: Jen decided to go with....Heath! A fine pick, Heath is a true gentleman, and turned out to be a great date, I hear, even if Jen decided to get the Flash photog's phone number.

The Life of Ian
What's going on in MY life

RUMOR: Surgery...did I survive?
DATE: May 22, 2002
SOURCE: Dr. Marshall
ODDS ON SURVIVAL: 1 to 10
Yeah, I survived. No real threat of death, but the nurses had me sign something where I agreed that they would "do all in their power to resuscitate" if I happened to tease death. One night stay in the hospital, and now I'm back home, living on smoothies, water, and other liquified foods. It could be worse, but then it could be better too. On Tuesday, I return to the Doc's office so he can remove these industrial-strength rubber bands holding my jaws together.
VIEWS: After the bands are cut, I still have to live with this mold, glued to my top teeth for my bottom teeth to rest in. It's supposed to guide my teeth to their natural location. Unfortunately, It also gives me a speech impediment for another couple weeks.

RUMOR: Surgery....again?!
DATE: May 22, 2002
SOURCE: Dr. Marshall
RECOVERY TIME PREDICTION: 7-10 days
That's right, my friends, it's surgery time...again! Perhaps you recall March of 1999, when I had jaw surgery for the first time, to correct that open bite. Well, all was chipper for a few years, then some "latent growth" of my jaw happened, and now I get to do it all one more time. It's a pain, yes, but in the 5 months I've had the braces on (again) I've learned just to shrug it off.
VIEWS: Dr. Marshall says "Wow, I've only seen this happen three or four times in my career." Yeah, ok, is that supposed to make it better???

FM Connection
news and notes from the old Flower Mound crowd

NEWS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES A SUCCESS
DATE: May 16, 2002
SOURCE: all 12 of us
PREDICTION ON LINE TIME: 150 minutes
Well, Hatter, Lewis and I got to the line about 2pm for our 6:15 showing. The line was also the line for the 3pm showing, so everyone looks at us oddly when we show up with lawn chairs, coolers, and a card table. As the 3pm showgoers pass us, we end up 3rd in line. Slowly, the other 9 showed up: Rob and his brother Spenser, Swanholm, Jared Bares, Tim McGowan, Anton, Jose, Monty, and my brother Evan. We also met "Clay" who was alone in line near us, waiting on a friend. We played dominoes, drank soda, exchanged stories during this great bonding time.
VIEWS: Oh yeah, the movie rocked the house. I've seen it twice already. After the show, I brought non-Flower Mounders Hatter, Jose, Monty, and Anton to Flow-Town's new Cici's Pizza. They all commented, "this is the nicest Cici's I've ever been in!" Yeah, we don't skimp in FM.

RUMOR: Attack of the Clones tickets
DATE: May 7, 2002
SOURCE: the AMC movie guy
PREDICTION ON LINE TIME: 150 minutes
Out of the blue last Friday, I decide to call AMC Grapevine Mills to confirm Star Wars tickets go on sale a week prior. Turns out, sales started that day! Well, I had to make an emergency run to Grapevine and get tickets. I bought the maximum (12) and the ticket guy was cool because he gave me the student discount for all of them. May 16 at 6:15pm...the evening premiere.
VIEWS: I remember last time we went...good times, great friends. Ordering pizza in line, Trivial Pursuit, JFK assignment, back row...it'll be fun all over again.
UPDATE! The actual time spent in line was more or less 4 hours. Good times.

RUMOR: Lewis has mono
DATE: May 7, 2002
SOURCE: Lewis
ODDS: 3 to 2
Lewis has mono...that's all I got.

The Homefront
RUMOR: Summer vacation plans

DATE: May 7, 2002
SOURCE: Hans
ODDS ON OREGON: 7 to 1
ODDS ON IRELAND: 4 to 1
ODDS ON GREECE: 20 to 1
That's right folks, once again, it's time for the Great Voorn Family Vacation. In my life as a Voorn, I've visited 33 states and 10 countries. More recently, we've gone to London, Rome, Paris, Vancouver Island, Maine coast, and the Netherlands.
VIEWS: Hans is pulling for either Ireland or the Oregon coast. I still like Greece, and I have Pam's backing. The trip is slated for early July.
UPDATE! The verdict is in...Dublin, Ireland. Erin go bragh!
