That's all I'm allowed to say. Sorry

THIS JUST IN...Weekend in Austin
DATE: January 24-25
Yes, I went again. THIS JUST IN

Concert Night
DATE: January 22
Thursday night at the Aardvark featured two TCU bands: Green River Ordinance and Free The Leaf. I had never seen G.R.O. before, and I was quite impressed with their sound. It sounds a lot like Counting Crows, in my opinion. Geoff, Stoney, and I went and really enjoyed it. Free The Leaf I have seen before, but I wasn't as interested this time. But Green River Ordinance...definitely my new favorite TCU band.

Tattoo Craze
DATE: January 19
The latest thing to do among BYX guys is get a tattoo. This isn't a brand new thing - Andrew Santi and Nathan Winston have had tattoos since circa 2001. But after seeing the shoulder blade-to-shoulder blade, neck-to-waist artwork on Erick Creed's back, it's started a new craze.
Possible victims include Gabe, Mike Moore, Geoff (?!!?!), Stoney, and Blake. I've deliberated and I always arrive at the same conclusion: it would be really cool to have one, but I know I'd regret it someday, most likely when I'm 50 years old. I'll ask Hans and see what he thinks. I think he would be in support of a tattoo of this ----->

Blake Visits
DATE: January 15-19
Blake graduated this past December after four and half years at TCU plus one year at Kansas City Art Institute. He moved to Austin and currently lives with his brother. He returned to TCU to pick up some leftover stuff from the Odessa House and also to partake in a dinner invitation to the Boschinis' home. The new TCU chancellor is amazing. He's got a great personal flair (perhaps you remember my meeting with him on a plane to New Orleans). He sent a very nice "with sympathy" letter to my parents, too. Anyway, Blake as you know is my big in BYX. Of course a visit to "Jons Grille" had to be made, so we did that Friday night. Hopefully, when I someday live in Austin, Blake and I will be able to hang out all the time. Oh yeah.

New Year's Eve Trip
DATE: December 30-January 1
I spent two joyous days in the wonderful town of Austin. This story is so good, it requires its own page. THIS JUST IN...New Years. (page ACTIVE!)

Allisa and Tara Bake Ian a Cake
DATE: December 11
Allisa took me to dinner on December 9 and she got very excited when I allowed her to bake me a cake - a pink one. She and Tara went overboard with the pink sprinkles, and there was a pretty Barbie candle right in the middle too. The cake was delicious, thank you ladies.

Some December Events...

TCU Christmas Tree Lighting
DATE: December 3
My favorite TCU tradition is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. As a member of Order of Omega, I got to help with the planning, and also got to read a line of "The Night Before Finals", a send-up of The Night Before Christmas. A good number of students attend, and everyone sings carols and brings gifts for underprivileged children. It's like a poster of how good us TCU students are. It was a blast, as always, and at least this year it wasn't below freezing.

HIS Formal
DATE: December 5
Emily Obert, apparently taking lessons from her big, Jen Kaminske, asked me to HIS formal the night before. It was the best HIS formal I'd been to for sure. In hindsight, I was glad I could have fun that night. I took about 40 photos, and here are some goodies:

(L) Jane is surprised during a mandatory girls' line dance. (R) Scott gets his mandatory groove on with Amber.

(L) Ian and Emily (R) Derek at his first-ever HIS event as Leanna's date, with Jessica's blessing, I assume

Dance Class
DATE: January 22
For my Frank Sinatra film class, I have had two weeks of dance lessons. The first week, all the guys in the class showed up. The second week, several were scared and didn't return. I, of course, did with the hopes of dancing with THE girl.. My dream came true, and dance we did. She was an excellent partner, but unfortunately, the dancing is through for the semester...unless we convince McGettigan to do it again. Until then...the dance remains on my mind.

Spring Classload
DATE: January 19
I've endured 7 semesters of college. In this 8th semester, I have finally achieved the ULTIMATE CLASS SCHEDULE. Mon/Wed class: Beginner Tennis from 9:30-11. Tues/Thur classes: Strategic Management from 9:30-11 and "Frank Sinatra & Popular Culture" from 3-5. Tuesday nights I have E-Business Consultancy from 5:30-8:10. Friday - no class! What a great 10-hour semester.

Frank Sinatra and Popular Culture class
DATE: January 19
Last week, I went to my first lab for the Sinatra class. The topic: dance lessons! Man, what a great class. I love my minor.

Ian: Inventory Specialist
DATE: January 6
For the third straight year, Rob and I got jobs as what we call "inventory specialists" at Mikasa. Mikasa sells dishes, "stemware", and other things for the home. We went in a few days before, and our jobs were secured. Only 15 people were hired this year, so apparently we made the cut. The shift lasted from 2 to 10, a big difference from last year's 2pm -3:00am shift. Yow! At the hiring, the manager, "Grace", said dinner would not be served this year. Much to our surprise, dinner was served - Chicken Express. $56 was made. A satisfactory night of work.

Matt Skinner's Christmas Party
DATE: January 5
Matt Skinner held a late party for Christmas this year at his Denton apartment. First we went to a Chinese restaurant with a cactus in front. I didn't understand. The food wasn't that good either. Later, I received my gift from Matt (oddly named incense flavors and a burner) and we played some Taboo. Freddie and I won, of course. The usual suspects were there - Freddie, Jessica, and a blonde girl whose name I can't mention on this site (captain's orders). It was definitely good to see everyone, and I got some news about others. Mike Hawkins is engaged. Matt Stevenson is MARRIED and has a child. Josh Roach is still flaming. But we've known that since 7th grade.

See, I told you there was a cactus-

Evan Showing Up Ian
DATE: January 15
Lucky for Evan, he gets to compete in a middle school-wide Geography Bee. I was not so lucky. Last year as a fifth grader, he won the Old Settlers Elementary Geography Bee, similar to a feat I pulled 10 years earlier at A.V. Baucom Elementary School in Apex, North Carolina. Evan became the 2nd Voorn Geo-Bee winner, continuing a great tradition. Well, he won the McKamy Middle School Geo-Bee this past week. Hans calls me Thursday to let me know he also entered the Spelling Bee. And oh yes, Evan won this too. Those are some great genes he's got. I, too, am a good speller, but the only opportunity I ever had was in 4th grade at Baucom Elementary. I came in 3rd place in my class bee after misspelling "vestige." (I spelled it "vestage"). Oh well...it was not meant to be.

The Voorn Epidemic
DATE: started December 21
I went to Pat Green on Friday the 19th. I think all the shouting and the smoky-bar aspect gave me a sore throat. Then I worked at Reata Saturday night. Running 8 miles with sickly lungs only complicated the issue. I was all-out sick on Sunday, and then later that week, Hans caught it, then Pam, then Evan. Our plans to take a few days off and fly to North Carolina, or Taos, or somewhere didn't pan out due to the epidemic.

Adrienne
I have so many great friends that have been very supportive in the past month. It's been tough, but it'll get better with time. Below is a link to the article about it. It ran on Monday, December 8 on the front page of the Dallas Morning News Metro section. It was a very good article; the writer called and talked to Hans about a few things.
