AUSTIN
DATES: February 20-22
Jose and I went to Austin for an action-packed weekend. For more photos, visit THIS JUST IN.

HIS Date Dash
DATE: February 19
Sheena invited me to Date Dash, which was held at Putt Putt Golf. It was a rockin' good time. Also at THIS JUST IN.

Hold'Em Tournament on Campus!!
DATE: March 6
Fiji is holding a No Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament in two weeks for their philanthropy. The $25 entry goes to their charity and a bunch of TCU students get to battle it out for prizes like a trip to Vegas, a big screen TV, DVD player, Mavs tickets, etc. It's already on my calendar.

Snow in Fort Worth
DATE: February 14
It snowed on Valentine's Day here in Fort Worth. It wasn't the normal Texas snow, which is icy and wet and makes for poor snowmen. This was real snow, but most of it had melted by the afternoon. Both winters that I've lived in the Cockrell House it has snowed:

2004: Snow has fallen, but no icy roads

Official Opening of Slippy Magee's Bar
DATE: February 7
The grand opening of the bar in Scott and Mike's apartment (pictures) was a week ago. It was mostly an RTVF major party, but I was granted an invite. As Dietz put it, "You're a minor, but the right kind of minor." So with my RTVF minor status, I knew fewer people there, but enough to make it worthwhile. Kelly and Jose were also there at some point. Furthermore, the Lunch Box is quickly become a bar specialty.

Jennifer and Rachel Visit Fort Worth
DATE: February 5
Jennifer and Rachel just couldn't wait to come to Fort Worth and go dancing at Billy Bob's. I was warned that neither of them were good at two-stepping, and I would have to teach. Well, they came, and when we finally got to Bob's, they were incredibly shy. Eventually, I got Jennifer on the dance floor, and Bear was a gentleman enough to teach Rachel. A Whataburger visit followed, and Jenn and Rachel got to know Scott Hatter on a more intimate level after eating at the tradition he started (Whataburger following Billy Bobs). There were plenty other people for the girls to meet that night. They like to give me flack about being a "big important college guy", which I am of course. But not important enough to get my bed for the night...I was nice enough to give that to the girls:

But then, they took advantage of getting up before I did to expose where the "big important college guy" got to sleep for the night....man, why don't I shut my mouth when I sleep? This is why I've had two jaw surgeries.

Life & Times of Ian

Valentine's Day at the Reata
DATE: February 14
I had to work Valentine's Day, but I was really excited about doing so, since it was a guaranteed big tip night. I left with the most ever I had made as a valet driver, $249. Furthermore, I got to valet the car of a celebrity, Bill Parcells, coach of the Cowboys. He came in with retired sportscaster Pat Summerall and their wives. He's a good tipper and a nice guy, for the record.

Ian's Physical Condition
DATE: February 29
It's been two weeks since Valentine's Day valet night. I STILL have shin splints.

Probable Spring Break Plans
DATE: March 11-20
My spring break is 10 days long, I determined. 5 days off school, two weekends, and a Friday with no class. I will be doing something hopefully each of these 10 days. Here's how the breakdown looks right now:
Thurs, March 11 - Sat, March 13: Miami with Brian McCleery and some of his A&M friends
Sun, March 14 - Wed, March 17: New Orleans with Jose, Scott, Dietz, and Paul
Thurs, March 18 - Sat, March 20: California with Evan (Disneyland)

It's my last spring break in college, so I have to make it the Best Spring Break Ever.

The Voorn Project: Rekindling Old Friendships
DATE: February 23
The success of my website has brought in several emails from old friends. Whitney Zondor, Becky Bolin, and Mrs. Garcelon (senior English) have all sent me notes recently. Becky and Mrs. Garcelon don't even live in Texas anymore; "Gail" has retired to Oregon, and Becky is at Yale now, in law school. Let's see who else I can get emails from...

Mavericks Game UPDATED!
DATE: this Thursday, Feb. 26
Hans has one of the luxury boxes for the Mavericks game this Thursday. He says this in passing, like, "oh yeah, Evan and I are going to the Mavs game on Thursday." Of course he "forgot" to mention this to me. Now I have to weasel my way into something that's practically mine! Okay, by "mine" I mean "property of my dad's department at AMR Corp." We'll see what happens.
UPDATE! Well, I didn't get to go to the game. Hans and Evan went; they had a good time. Apparently it had been awhile since Hans had been to a pro basketball game. I think he went to a few Duke, Carolina, or State games when we lived in North Carolina. After all, it is the center of college basketball craziness, and don't try to argue with that. My point is, his thoughts on the night were, "it was sensory overload. Lights flashing, Mavs Man, dancers, motorcycles, t-shirt guns..." Old man river...crazy man, that father.

Fast Facts about Hans
DATE: February 27
I found out some interesting things about my dad I never knew. His last pro basketball game (before the Mavs) was in the 8th grade. He was on the St. Cyprian's Catholic School basketball team and the team got to go to a Lakers game. He got to meet the players (the Jerry West and Elgin Baylor days) and go on the court at the old L.A. Sports Arena. Pretty cool.

New Dishwasher
DATE: February 27
Hans and Pam bought a new dishwasher. Man, this is a slow news day...

Other Possible Voorn Visits
DATE: February 27 and 28
Sheena and I are going to visit the Voorns in Flower Mound on Friday. She has been interested in visiting and finding out how the Voorns live their jet-set life. She'll also get the whole Flower Mound tour that has been given to a few other select Horned Frogs, such as Jen Kaminske.
Then, on Saturday, I'm working on getting Hans and his best friend Larry to come for the Monte Montgomery concert. He plays at the Aardvark, where I saw him just 4 months ago, but it was such a good show, I can't wait to see it again. Speaking of concerts, when is Mingo Fishtrap returning to Fort Worth?

Spring Break: The Homefront UPDATED!
DATE: March
Looks like it'll be another spring break in California for most of the Voorns. Pam keeps mentioning Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm for a day, and of course, relatives will have to be visited. This is the first time since I've been at college that the TCU spring break and the Lewisville ISD spring break have coincided.
UPDATE! Here's the story: on Thursday, March 18, Evan and I will fly to California to see relatives and to visit Disneyland! It's been too long...Hans suggested "California Adventure" but none of us are sure what that is. He thinks it's a true CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE, complete with earthquakes, forest fires, and Watts riots. Fun times.

The Pool is Being Re-Plastered
DATE: early February
The swimming pool at the Voorn estate in Flower Mound is being re-plastered. Apparently this is something that needs to be done every 9 years. It scares me that we've lived in Texas for so long. The flagstone and tile were also replaced:
