TCU-SMU Rivalry Game
DATE: November 29
The storied rivalry between the private schools of Dallas and Fort Worth was staged on Saturday. The game was played at Gerald Ford Stadium (not the former president) in Dallas. Kickoff was at 2, and from the start of the game, it was obvious that 10-1 TCU, getting national attention and playing for the best record since 1938, had brought more fans than the home team, 0-11 SMU, playing for a win, any win. Well, TCU won, but it was close, as all our road games have been. A 24 point spread was awfully generous, and unthinkable considering we haven't had any blowouts on the road.
I went to the game with Geoff and Mike (and Mike's girlfriend). There were a lot of TCU alumni there, but not as many students as I would've thought. I do love SMU for its setting though - the Park Cities are nice, even if gas is a little expensive ($1.75, where on the same day it was $1.32 at the RaceTrac in Lewisville). Geoff came back to Flower Mound to see the family and hang out for a bit. And that's all.

TCU Tree Lighting
DATE: December 3
The annual tree lighting ceremony is December 3 in front of Sadler Hall. The tree lighting is definitely one of my favorite TCU traditions. Last year, it was carried out in sub-freezing temperatures for sure. This year, the weather will be better I foresee.

Preliminary New Years Plans
DATE: December 31
Well, since TCU won't be in a BCS bowl (their loss) on New Year's Day, I must make other arrangements for a decent party location. One rumor that's up in the air is Austin. John Anderson came to me a while ago and said, "Next time you go to Austin, I want to go." What better time than New Year's Eve. Jane and Becky are also in support of this idea, since they live there. More details to follow...

Crime Wave in Flower Mound??
DATE: unknown
I like to joke about the "crime" that happens in Flower Mound. Bottom line, there's none. It's a boring bedroom community, but when I came home on Wednesday, Hans jokingly warned me to lock my car if I parked it in the street. "There's been a wave of car burglaries," he said. "Thugs are smashing out the back windows of SUVs and taking the stereos." Apparently this happened to 13 cars in Walden Creek Estates (-->), the former home of Andrew Lund and Calculus Club. I wonder if Andrew knows how his old neighborhood has turned into the slums...

Coming Home
DATE: November 26
I had not seen Flower Mound since I last visited in August. A lot has changed. Here's a list of major changes I noticed:

  • Another Chili's is being built in the Super Target center at 407 & 2499
  • McKamy Creek Road is now 4 lanes wide
  • The expansion of 3040 is finally underway
  • A house burned down on Rob's street
  • The Flo-Mo IHOP is now 24 hours, but only on Friday and Saturday

Family Update
DATE: November 26-30
I was home for about 4 days, and got the scoop on everything going on in and around Flo-Mo. Hans is considering *gasp* leaving American Airlines?? He's been there 25 years and he can't move up the corporate ladder much more, so he's thinking of applying for a job working with an airport management company. The two places he mentioned to me were Tucson and Las Vegas. The problem though, is he loses his flight benefits. So what he would like to do is work at AMR until he's 55 (2005), retire with benefits, then go to work somewhere else. Sounds like a plan.
