Girl of the Week is...

Emily

I enjoy stories about how I met certain people. Sometimes, it's an interesting story. Other times, rather trite and boring. Emily first started to be my friend out of necessity and not because of my personality, I believe. During finals week spring 2002, she needed my notes from Survey of Theatre. As long as I was helping her out, I guess she decided to be my friend as well. Everybody wins.

Did you know Emily is from Austin? She is very knowledgeable about the city, unlike other Austinites I know that have never even visited downtown or seen the University of Texas.

Emily, like every other girl I know, doesn't like having her picture taken. It took some convincing to get this photo of her at Krispy Kreme in Fort Worth. That blinding neon in the background is the "Hot Donuts Now" sign in the window.

You have to love Emily for her t-shirt. Gruene Hall! Oldest dance hall in Texas.

NEW STUFF FOR AUGUST...

I spent some time with Emily this summer so I learned some more things. She works at Gap Kids at a mall in Austin, and provided some Fort Worth folks with 30% cards...part of the perks. She really likes dogs and doesn't care much for cats. Her house features a dog, a bird and some fish.

Although Emily won't admit it, I think she's a bit absent-minded. She managed to lock her keys inside the house, which prevented us from using her car. So we drove my car to Borders, where her sister works, got her sister's house key, and were then able to get inside the house. After the Mingo Fishtrap concert, we went to Katz's for cheesecake milkshakes. They were delicious. Apparently, they take a whole slice of cheesecake and stick it in the blender with ice cream to make these shakes. I paid for Emily's cover at the concert, so she offered to pick up the tab on the milkshakes. It was then that she realized her credit card was missing. We traced it back to Slick Willie's, the pool hall we had been at the night before. Eventually, she got it back. So two different pieces of evidence...it was a red-letter day for forgetfulness.

Melissa is sending me some more photos of Emily, hopefully. She's in Austin and I'm in Fort Worth, so I will have to stick with the old classics, from Krispy Kreme donuts, for now.
