Girl of the
Week is... Alicia
Alicia has just completed her freshman year at Baylor University in everyone's favorite city, Waco. She is one of The Voorn Project's biggest fans! So I first started talking to Alicia because she was surfing through the site and discovered that I am "from" Flower Mound, just like she is. I use the term "from" lightly because we have different connections to the town. I moved there when I was 12, when the town first started to experience a growth boom. The Voorns moved there because, like other families transplanted to Texas because of job transfers, it was a small, attractive city far from the center of the Metroplex. Back then it was about 20,000 strong. Now the population is about 55,000 and still growing. It's still one of the nicer suburbs, head and shoulders above the crappy 'burbs like Hurst, Euless, and Garland. Those were nice about 30 years ago. I'm sorry, the truth hurts
In the photo below, Alicia is seond from the left. Are these *gasp* Baylor football fans?? Wow, that Sooner girl seems out of place....
So about Alicia...while I moved to Flower Mound in the mid-90s, she has lived there HER WHOLE LIFE! Even back when it was just three streets and ranchland. Wow. And even more strange, she didn't go to any schools in the Lewisville Independent School District (includes Flower Mound). She went to school at Liberty Christian in Denton. What's wrong with Marcus?? Nothing at all. Alicia is enjoying herself down at Baylor this year. She's a sorority girl - a Theta - and spends a lot of time studying too. The library at Baylor is open 24 hours a day...so sometimes she is there "studying" all night long. Other memorable freshman year memories for her include a lot of ultimate frisbee. Of course, I think that's the case at any college. I know ultimate is nearly a major course of study at TCU.
But enough about me...Alicia has done some other crazy things like explore the underground tunnels at Baylor. She goes to a lot of cookouts in the park. I guess when you live in the bustling metropolis of Waco, Texas a weekend barbecue is the best option. But I've got love - cookouts are fun. Must I remind you about the Cockrell Summer Porch Party Series? That's all on Alicia. She's coming home to Flower Mound for an event-filled summer, if she doesn't go on staff at Kanakuk (yet another camp counselor). Sic em Bears.
